Gary Leonard is General Manager for Gas Turbine products for GE Power & Water’s Distributed Power business, a leading provider of power equipment and services. Distributed Power’s product portfolio includes highly efficient industrial aeroderivative gas turbines and reciprocating engines that generate 100 kW to 100 MW of power for numerous industries globally. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Distributed Power employs more than 5,000 people around the world.

In addition to setting product strategy for gas turbine products – including the next generation industrial gas turbine (IGT) – Gary also leads the product strategy council for Distributed Power.  He joined GE in 1982 as a senior staff engineer at GE Corporate Research and held a number of positions with increasing responsibility in both research and in Industrial Aeroderivative Gas Turbines, including general manager. He joined GE Aviation in 2003 and held marketing and program management roles prior to leading the integration of Smiths Aerospace into the Aviation business. Most recently, Gary was technology director at GE Global Research, overseeing research on aero, thermal and mechanical systems.

Gary earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Davis, and a master’s degree and doctorate in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. Gary and his wife, Madeline, have three children and live in Saratoga Springs, New York.  They will be relocating to Cincinnati soon.
